LITERATURE REVIEW COMPLICATED APPENDICITIS BACKGROUND ON COMPLICATED APPENDICITIS Appendicitis occurs due to several reasons like hyperplasia of the lymphoid, bacterial/viral infection but major cause being as a result of obstruction of appendicle lumen by a faecolith (1). if not managed in time or misdiagnosed it progresses to Complicated appendicitis in form of perforation, peritonitis, formation of phlegmon and abscess and even mortality(2)(3),especially in children the rate of complication has been reported to be very high . Perforation is defined as a hole in the appendix or a faecolith in the abdomen(4) while appendicular mass develops due to walled off perforation which causes a mass when it localizes(forsyth j) and furthers to adjacent viscera and greater omentum and forms a phlegmon (5).below are images of a perforation and a faecolith . A- Hole in the appendix B- Fecalith in abdomen Anatomy Vermiform of the appendix is approximately 5-10cm with its location at the right lower quadrant at the end of the cecum. Burton Raffel wrote a heroic poem called ‘Beowulf’. Beowulf is a heroic poem about Good versus Evil and Beowulf is the hero. In the heroic poem, Beowulf’s wyrd (fate) is to defeat monsters and save lives and with that brings lof (fame), sometimes to believe in yourself you got to have others to believe in you too, Beowulf and Wiglaf have a comitatus thats hard to break. In fact lof is important to Beowulf’s culture because, it shows strength, bravery and success. This proves that a little loyalty can go a long way especially when others or yourself need it. Another thing that is important to Beowulfs culture is wyrd which means fate, fate is important and Beowulfs culture because according to Beowulfs beliefs fate controls the events in the world. Nanjing has long been celebrated as a literary and political center. It was the capital of China from the 3d to 6th cent. A. D. and again from 1368 to 1421. The Treaty of Nanjing, signed in 1842 at the end of the Opium War, opened China to foreign trade. During the Taiping Rebellion insurgents held the city from 1853 to 1864. It was captured by the revolutionists in 1911, and in 1912 it became the capital of China’s first president, Sun Yat-sen. When in 1927 the city fell to the Communists, the foreign residents fled to the protection of British and American warships on the Chang River.
